NYT article on nonsurgical sterilization

Where was calcium chloride? New York Times journalist Douglas Quenqua focused the article on Zeuterin, a product likely to come out in the US shortly, but also briefly covered other options including Suprelorin and GonaCon (which are not approved for dogs and cats in the US). But no mention of calcium chloride despite decades of use for male sterilization. The article called New Strides in Spaying and Neutering brought up cultural attitudes regarding neutering pets as well as the need to find alternatives to surgery for feral pet populations. The author elucidated reasons for veterinary resistance to new methods, including financial and legal justifications, and continued reliance on traditional castration surgery. If Zeuterin catches on, will other nonsurgical methods be more widely developed and accepted? One can only hope.
